Christian Nationalist

Members of the Legislature: 0
Highest Office Won: None
Founded: 1947 in Arkansas

The histories of the Christian Nationalist Party report that it was born in Arkansas in 1947 and was dead a decade later. Although the Christian Nationalist Party existed from 1947 until 1956, only one of its candidates was on the California ballot after 1950. That candidate, Douglas MacArthur, was shared with the Constitution Party (although it is worth noting that MacArthur received almost 20 times as many votes as the Christian Nationalist candidate than as the Constitution Nominee). After 1952, the party failed to ever again successfully rally even moderate numbers of voters. The harsh end of the party was best related by the Encyclopedia of Third Parties in the United States; which made the following comment about CNP founder Rev. Gerald Lyman Kenneth Smith's 1956 run for the Presidency; "Smith again ran for the Presidency in 1956, this time choosing Charles F. Robertson of California as his running mate. The ticket received an incredibly modest total of eight votes!"
